Marry You-- Joe Mazzello x Reader
Request; âHow about a joe mazzello based on the song marry you by Bruno  Mars? Idkâ ( @hi-i-dont-know )
Warnings; some language, the song is fem! specific but the story itself isnât
Word Count; 1.8k
Notes; sorry it's taken me so long to get around to this lol
You couldnât believe it. You had worked so hard for so long, and you finally did it. Here you were, standing on a stage, accepting an award at a prestigious ceremony. People were clapping, and cameras were everywhere. Never in a million years did you expect this to happen.Â
You stuttered through your acceptance speech before scurrying back to your seat. The rest of the awards ceremony seemed to go by in a haze as you continued to try to wrap your mind around the evening. You were in desperate need of a drink, and the after party couldnât come soon enough.
Dozens of people came up to congratulate you, and you only recognized about half of them. You quickly gulped down your drinks in an attempt to make yourself calm down. It wasnât the wisest idea, but it was all you could do besides leaving the party, which you obviously didnât want to do. You were tipsy, borderline drunk, and still feeling overwhelmed. Thatâs when he decided to approach you. The last thing you needed was your childhood celebrity crush to show up, but thatâs exactly what happened.
Your first introduction to Joe Mazzello was when you watched Radio Flyer shortly after it came out, then you saw him again in Jurassic Park. Your younger self thought he was cute, thus your childhood crush formed. As years went on and the two of you started to become more successful in the world of entertainment, you had met each other once or twice, but it was always in passing. Neither of you really spoke to each other much. The most interaction the two of you had was via social media, occasionally liking each otherâs posts.Â
Needless to say, you were worried about embarrassing yourself because you had too much alcohol in your system for your mind to properly function, and it didnât help that you continued to drink. âIâm sure youâre going to be sick of hearing this by the end of the night, but congratulations!â Joe flashed you a bright smile. You laughed before thanking him. âMind if I sit?â He nodded his head towards the empty stool next to yours. You shook your head.
âNo, not at all!â Joe sat, and the two of you chatted about basic stuff, like âHave you tried the shrimp? Itâs pretty good!â or âIâve been going ninety-to-nothing tonight and canât wait to finally get home.â You normally felt awkward during small talk, but this was nice. Maybe it was just the alcohol that was making this feel so comfortable. Maybe it was just his charming personality. Either way, you didnât care. You were enjoying it.Â
âHope Iâm not bothering you. Iâm sure a ton of other people would like to talk to you.â You scoffed at Joeâs comment and dramatically rolled your eyes.
âOh, please! Iâm having way more fun talking to you than I would have if I were talking to some of them. Besides, itâs not every day that you get to hang out with your age-old celebrity crush.â You brought your glass to your lips and froze. Did you seriously just say that out loud? No, surely not. You werenât that drunk, right? You slowly lowered the glass, glancing over at Joe. Shit. You did say it out loud. His mouth was open, looking shocked. And his cheeks were red.Â
âYou... wait. Iâm your celebrity crush?â You felt the heat rising to your face and nodded. He ran a hand through his hair. âNo fucking way. This is crazy. Youâve been my celebrity crush since we first met at that movie premiere a few years ago,â Joe said enthusiastically, very much resembling a child telling their friends about the cool toy they got for Christmas. You covered your mouth in an attempt to stifle your laughter. Joeâs brows knitted together, but his goofy grin remained. âIâm serious!âÂ
âThis is too good to be true. It sounds like something out of a fanfiction book on Wattpad or Tumblr.â Joe laughed, stating his agreement. He suddenly grabbed your hand. His eyes were wide and mischief danced across his features.
âIâve got an awesome idea, and itâll really make life like a fanfic.â You pursed your lips, eyeing him suspiciously.
âWhatâre you planning, Joe?âÂ
âItâs a surprise! Now, whereâs the closest Walmart?â
Who cares if we're trashed Got a pocket full of cash we can blow Shots of Patron And it's on girl
The two of you managed to find an Uber at the ungodly hour of the morning it was. People gave you odd looks when you first walked into the store. Some because they recognized the two of you, and some because you were both in incredibly formal attire... while drunk shopping in Walmart. You headed straight towards the candy, and Joe disappeared. As you were paying for the mountain of candy in your arms, you felt someone tap on your shoulder. It was Joe, nervously shifting his weight from one foot to the other. âYou okay?â you snickered, grabbing the plastic bag from the worker before thanking her.Â
'Cause it's a beautiful night, we're looking for something dumb to do Hey baby, I think I wanna marry you Is it the look in your eyes or is it this dancing juice Who cares baby, I think I wanna marry you
âActually, thereâs something important I want to ask you.â You raised a brow at him, and he took a deep breath. When Joe got down on one knee, your jaw dropped. He pulled out a ring that had a little silver frog on top, its back made of a green gem. âLetâs continue with the fanfiction themed night, shall we?â You laughed, nodding. Joe beamed up at you and slid the ring onto your finger.
âIs this actually happening right now?â you asked in between laughs. Joe shrugged.Â
âDunno. That sounds like something for our sober selves to figure out. Wanna check out the Redbox movies?â
I'll go get a ring Let the choir bell sing like ooh So what you wanna do Let's just run girl If we wake up and you want to break up That's cool No, I won't blame you It was fun girl
Your head was pounding. Bringing a hand to your face, you rubbed your eyes before squinting them open. How much did you drink last night? You could hardly remember a thing... that is until you realized you werenât in your hotel room, nor were you alone. An arm was wrapped around your waist, and the personâs head was nuzzled against your back. Fucking shit. Your mind was reeling, trying to remember what had happened. A part of your mind tried to rationalize that maybe you didnât hook up with someone. After all, you were still dressed. Then again... the sweats and baggy shirt didnât belong to you.Â
You were worried about waking whoever was beside you. You were desperate to avoid any awkward and embarrassing interactions. Slowly reaching out, you went to pull your phone off of the bedside table. Thatâs when you noticed the ring. Your breath got caught in your throat as a sudden sense of urgency flooded your system. You tried to turn your phone on, but a black screen stared back at you. Of course, it was dead. Well, there was only one thing you could do. You started peeling yourself from the personâs grasp. As you did, the person stirred. When you were finally able to turn and look at them, it felt like someone dumped a bucket of rocks into your stomach. âDamn... my headâs killinâ me,â Joe groaned while rubbing his face. Your mouth open and closed. You couldnât think of anything to say. Joe removed his hands, finally meeting your gaze. His eyes widened. âOh my god...â was all the could muster up.
âJoe, what the hell happened last night?â You showed him your hand, and his face reddened.Â
âWell... I-- uh-- donât remember much. I donât think we had sex, but I donât know about that.â He pointed at the ring. Joe quickly sat up, snatching his phone from the floor. Thankfully, it had been charging.Â
He had multiple missed calls and unopened text messages from his friends, most of which said something along the lines of âJoe, what the hell is going on? Is this real?â Joe swiped through his camera roll, but most of the pictures were goofy selfies or short videos of the two of you wandering around Walmart. It didnât really offer much information. You suggested looking through your social media accounts. Lo and behold, it was the jackpot. Your twitter was filled with cringe-worthy levels of cheesy and sappy pickup lines, all of which had Joe tagged in them. He responded to a few, but his replies only consisted of various heart emojis. Joeâs Instagram story had dozens of photos and videos of you two, most of which you had already seen in his camera roll. Then there was one post that had the caption âI liked it so I put a ring on it (guess weâre engaged now)â, and you had commented â#couplegoalsâ. You decided to take a look into your own Instagram account, clicking through the story photos you remembered posting. When it finally got to something new, you couldnât help the butterflies that formed in your chest.Â
It was a video of Joe, laying in bed next to you. Your head was on his chest, and you had an arm draped across his torso. You were out cold, and Joe had a soft smile on his face. â(Y/N) fell asleep in the middle of our Night At The Museum marathon, so I decided to hack their insta.â He glanced down at you, his smile growing even wider. âTheyâre so adorable, even when theyâre snoring like a freight train. But donât let them know that I told you guys that,â he said the last part with a serious expression. Joe pressed a kiss to the top of your head, then the video ended.
âSo I guess we got engaged,â you mumbled, examining the little frog ring on your finger. âWe know that much happened.â
âWhat now?â Joe asked, his voice barely above a whisper. You glanced at him, and he was idly tracing a pattern into the bedâs comforter.Â
âWell, first, I think we should get some breakfast. I donât know about you, but Iâm starving. Then maybe we could start with a date and see how that goes?â Joe looked up, meeting your gaze. A smile spread across his lips.
âI like that plan.â
Don't say no no no no no Just say yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah And we'll go go go go go If you're ready, like I'm ready
Just say I do Tell me right now baby Tell me right now baby, baby Just say I do Tell me right now baby Tell me right now baby, baby

You know why the Seekers having high levels of agency makes no sense? Because Xehanort wanted Sora as one! It's a plot point that doesn't work unless you assume that some level of mind control is involved.
LOL, exactly. How are you going to make Sora of all people a Seeker of Darkness if they are not just Xehanortâs puppets? What was the point of even going after someone like him? He would never help the bad guys willingly. So Xehanort obviously has to be able to fully control them on a whim. This is also a subject I had been meaning to write about.
KH3D ended with Xehanort NOT getting Sora, leaving him one Seeker short. Ooh, thatâs exciting, now whatâs he gonna do? I thought that his search for the final Seeker would have been a big part of KH3â˛s plot. But it really wasnât. I thought that was so anticlimactic.By the time KH3 rolled around, Xehanort had so many Seekers lined up that he even had reserve members.
Itâs funny. I remember a lot of people complaining about how all the villains got an undeserved redemption in KH3. After spending the whole game helping Xehanort, they randomly give a heartfelt speech at the very end. So, only once Sora defeats them do they grow a conscience? Everyone was asking why they didnât have any remorse before.
Thereâs a big pillar of darkness that leaves their body after theyâre beaten. Itâs almost like that would have been Xehanortâs heart and darkness leaving them; thus, theyâd no longer be controlled once itâs gone. Theyâd have their own minds and hearts back again. So, in that context, their little speeches would have actually made sense. Iâm sure that was originally the idea, at least for characters like characters like Saix and Luxord. But when you have the characters acting in full control of themselves the entire time beforehand, these scenes seem ridiculous and lose all of their meaning.
Master Xehanort: All of this was decided. My twelve selves would welcome me here on this day, when I would return a complete person. It is the future which lies beyond my sight.
The story made it clear that not just anyone can become a Seeker of Darkness. He literally calls them his 12 selves. It apparently takes a very specific type of person to make a suitable vessel for Xehanortâs heart. Thatâs why most of them are Xehanortâs own alter egos; extensions of himself. His old self, his young self, his Heartless, his Nobody. Terranort and young Riku are also Xehanort, just while heâs possessing other peopleâs bodies.Vanitas is a being born of pure darkness. Only the strongest vessels can handle a heart like Xehanortâs. Thatâs why he targeted Terra in the first place.
Sora: Make more Xehanorts? You tricked your friends to⌠But youâarenât you scared of just turning into someone else?
Xigbar: Me? Iâm already half Xehanort.
Sora: Thatâs nutsâŚ
KH3D also stressed the consequences of getting Xehanortâd. A totally willing person immersed in darkness is a candidate (if they are strong enough). But youâd have to be willing to sacrifice part of yourself; your identity, your mind, your agency. Few are crazy enough to do that. Braig just happens to be that nuts. But the rest?
Xigbar: Xemnas and Xehanort formed the Organization for a specific reasonâround up a bunch of empty husks, hook them up to Kingdom Hearts, then fill them all with the exact same heart and mind. Translationâthey were gonna turn all the members into Xehanort.
Xemnas: Howeverâthrough weakness of bodyâŚweakness of willâŚor weakness of trustâmost of the original members we had chosen for the Organization were inadequate. Thus, naturally, they never had a chance to attain their goal. Yet, even this was to be expected. We have learned of the heartâs folly, and we have achieved our other goals.
Xemnas never considered most of them truly worthy vessels. He needed to use the power of a fully completed artificial Kingdom Hearts, just to be able to use them as vessels⌠and even still they werenât worthy. Xemnas says as much, and that they had to resort to âother goalsâ. Sounds like he gave up on all of the old Organization, other than Xigbar and Saix.
Weakness of trust is something that is supposed to exclude them from being worthy. So why all of a sudden are Marluxia and Larxene back again? They didnât seem to be controlled exactly. But they didnât seem to be willing participants either. Thereâs no way they trust Xehanort, though. He said he brought them to be Seekers due to their connection to the past and the Keyblade War. If they were so important to his plans, why did he send Larxene and Marluxia to get executed in Castle Oblivion for their treachery? Itâs possible KH4 will answer this, but for now it makes little sense.
And if Xehanort can force unwilling people to be his vessels that easily, why didnât Young Xehanort take any of the others with him when he took Isa? I just bought the BBS novel that came out a few days ago. I thought it was interesting how this little character blurb described Dilan. It says unlike Aeleus, he is adept at manipulating the hearts of others. Honestly Dilan sounded like a pretty bad person, even before Xehanort came along. Thatâs exactly the message I got from doing his weapon analysis, too. If anyone from the old Organization actually seemed like they would join the new Organization willingly, it would have been him and Braig. I am sure there was more to Dilan than what we got. He basically did nothing in KH3.
Aeleus: Dilan and Even are conscious again, but still unstable. Theyâre resting inside. -KH3D
Ienzo: He was recompleted like the rest of us, but he didnât regain consciousness. After Lea left, he must have woken and taken his leave. -KH3
Then thereâs this whole thing which I thought was weird. Aeleus specifically said that they both regained consciousness, but they were just unstable. And Ienzo is right there to hear this. He had to know. Yet in KH3, Ienzo says that he never regained consciousness.
I think there had to be a reason those two characters in particular were kept away from Lea in DDD. They were going to be important for something. The fact that Vexen and Demyx are âreserveâ members just reeks of retconning. Like they were not supposed to be there originally and they didnât know how to quite fit them into the story. So yeah, theyâre just reserves. They even whine about getting âbenchedâ which was really silly to me.
Besides Xehanort and Braig, I think Dilan and Even were the apprentices that were the most heavily involved in Leaâs dark past and the human experiments. Thatâs why he wasnât allowed to interact with them yet. They knew the truth about Isa. Even probably was not willingly involved, and would feel remorseful to Lea. And he probably would have confessed the truth about Isa. It was necessary to the plot for him to be kept away from Lea. Thatâs my theory.
Xehanort: Roxas⌠Now, there was a worthy candidate. But, unfortunately, he became too aware of himself, and returned to Sora. Organization XIIIâs  goal is to divide Xehanortâs heart among thirteen vessels. Thanks to you and Sora, we learned not all our candidates were fit for the task.
As for completely unwilling people being made into Seekers, they would need to be totally steeped in darkness, like Terra, where Xehanort can basically just hijack their body. But Terra put up way too much of a fight, and he couldnât risk that again; Xehanort learned from that mistake. Thatâs why Roxas was a good candidate at first. He started off so spacey, and without much awareness. Of course, he didnât stay that way for long.
I shall conduct the following experiments:
Extract the darkness from a personâs heart.
Cultivate darkness in a pure heart.
Both suppress and amplify the darkness within.
The experiments caused the test subjectâs heart to collapse, including those of the most stalwart. How fragile our hearts are! My treatment produced no signs of recovery. -Ansemâs Report
Weakness of will is another issue. It is very tricky to make the person vulnerable to possession, but not have their heart totally collapse. If their heart collapses, they are too broken to use.If yourâe too far gone, youâre no good; there is a point of no return. Thatâs basically how Xehanort viewed Ventus at the beginning of BBS. I think thatâs why Xemnas was so desperate to find Ventus in 358/2 Days. His body was asleep, and his heart was elsewhere. Heâs totally vacant, but his heart was not collapsed or broken thanks to Sora. Roxas became too aware, but Ven was a perfect vessel.
Xemnas: Our experiments creating Heartless were attempts to control the mind, and convince it to renounce its sense of self.
What it ultimately comes down to is: Xehanort needs a person who is devoid of a sense of self. Not broken; just lacking the mental capacity to reject his heart. The fact that Xehanort was resorting to mind control experiments shows how desperate he was to find someone like this, and how difficult it is to use someone as a vessel for his heart. And this is why I think Isa being âSubject Xâ is the only thing that actually makes sense to me. I mean, just look at how Nomura chose to draw him in the official artworks. Heâs the only Organization member that just stares blankly ahead, while everyone else makes eye contact with the âcameraâ. That blank look is so similar to people whoâve lost their heart, like Kairi and Ventus.
Itâs worth mentioning that the localization team chose the name âRecusantâs Sigilâ for the âXâ mark. When you recuse yourself, you remove yourself from a situation to avoid a conflict.A recusant is a person who refuses to submit to an authority or to comply with a regulation. Thatâs the exact opposite of what Xehanort would want in a person. It sounds like the âXâ is something akin to a punishment for having too much of a sense of self. Itâs a brand of ownership meant to break the personâs will. So I think if anything, Isa must have put up one heck of a fight before he recused himself. He definitely didnât seem to have the âweakness of willâ problem. Which is probably why he was so special. He had such a strong will that he lost his sense of self, but he didnât completely break like everyone else did. He was a great vessel in that regard. âSubject Xâ possess all the qualities of an ideal vessel.
I mentioned this on the previous post about Axel, but deities like Shiva are often depicted with a dot directly between the eyebrows. This is significant because this is where the pineal gland is located, which is said to activate the Third Eye chakra on the forehead. It is also called the mindâs eye because it is the direct link between the mind and the physical world. It is also regarded as the highest feminine energy center in the body and the portal to the The Higher Self. This is generally regarded as a union with the divine source. Similar to the notion of the soul, basically. The true spiritual self. It is truly interesting to me that Saixâs scar is located directly between his eyebrows.
The symbol of death is situated directly on the source of his mind and soul. Thereâs no way that was just a coincidence. Also, it always seemed significant to me that Xemnas was covering Saixâs mouth in that picture. Nobody else in any of the official artwork has part of their face covered like that. It immediately stood out to me, since Saix was right up front and center in the illustration with Xemnas. Artists donât just cover up a large part of a characterâs face like that for no reason. I think itâs very symbolic that Xemans is covering Saixâs Throat chakra. Its emphasis is on communication and projecting authenticity into the world. When it is in balance we can express what we think and what we feel.
A question about Terranort. Ansem and Xemnas came from the splitting of Terranort. Does that mean that when they were defeated in KH1 and KH2, Terra was revived alongside Master Xehanort?
Nomura: By all rights, Terra should have been revived as himself at that point in time. However, his heart was still in the clutches of Xehanort, and it was unable to go back, and the shell of his body was the only thing that revived. Then, Xehanort brought the heart of Terranort from the past and put it in that shell of a body he once controlled.
If Isaâs heart had also been swallowed by Xehanortâs (which is whatâs supposed to happen to those who get Xehanortâd) then it made perfect sense that they took him and only him. His heart wasnât in his body. It was âcapturedâ, as Nomura said. His body was just an empty shell, like Terraâs. A perfect empty vessel just waiting to be filled.
I thought Iâd never see the word âreplicaâ again. Any rational man would realize the Riku Replica was not likely unique, but Iâm the only one in the Organization who knew of his exceptional copying functionality, and that he ultimately formed a sense of self. -Axelâs Report
Xemnas: The goal was to duplicate the Keyblade wielderâs memories, and through them, his powersâthus making them our own. Vexen oversaw the project at Castle Oblivion. However, our efforts were severely derailed by his unexpected demise. And this particular Replicaâthe one we called Xionâcame to form an identity of her own.
Xemnas: We wanted the Key. Xionâs exposure to Roxas effected a transfer of its power, just as we had hoped. Had things stopped there, Xion would have been an unequivocal success. But then, through Roxas, Sora himself began to shape âitâ into âher,â giving Xion a sense of identity. I was ready to scrap the whole projectâŚ
Lastly, I didnât like the Deus ex Replica aspect of the story. How Xehanort could just use replicas to fill out his ranks. That was far too convenient, considering the Replica Program was an unfinished failure at the time of Vexenâs demise. Now he suddenly made that much progress so fast? Nah, I donât buy it. The story made a big deal of this idea that the Replica Project was a failure, because even replicas will gain a sense of self over time.
